Matching Tenses

Making sure verb tenses match up in a sentence (subject/verb agreement) is a difficult thing to spot when looking over your work—everything seems great when you look at it for hours. Subject/Verb agreement (match) make or break a sentence, as mismatching tenses cause confusion or change the meaning of a sentence completely. This article has all the lessons you need to master tenses, including a “tense” cheat sheet! Just remember: A subject and verb must match in number. i.e., “My customerlikes the way theycan order directly on line.” Keep it singular or plural. Customer is singular; they is plural. “Customers like the way they can order directly on line.”
